June 30th, 2015

St. Johns County, Fla. – June 29, 2015 – Freehold Communities today announces additional details about Shearwater, its newest community crafted for active families, outdoor enthusiasts and lovers of scenic beauty in northern St. Johns County. One part sanctuary, at the headwaters of Trout Creek, the 1,500-acre community features more than 600 acres of native landscape and more than 13 miles of trails through tracts of preserved habitat. Shearwater was planned as a family-focused community and was intentionally placed in St. Johns County, which is ranked one of the top 10 school districts in the country, according to a recent Forbes Magazine and greatschools.org research study.

Announced today, the public schools for which Shearwater is zoned include:

  • Timberlin Creek Elementary School (adjacent to Shearwater)
  • Switzerland Point Middle School
  • Bartram Trail High School

Timberlin Creek Elementary School is located at the entrance to Shearwater, where the community will develop a paved pathway directly connecting Shearwater residents to the school. The pathway will be separated from main roads allowing children to walk or bike to and from school safely, a high priority for the Shearwater community.

“Families continue to relocate to St. Johns County to provide their children with high-quality public education, better preparing them for higher education, while living a higher quality of life as it is one of the most desirable, family-oriented locations in Florida,” said Vikki Powell, a local realtor with 15 years of experience in the market. “Shearwater’s lifestyle will provide many benefits to families seeking social activities, nature and a positive environment in which to raise children.”

As an active family-focused community, the epicenter of Shearwater will be a multi-dimensional clubhouse, the Kayak Club, offering a variety of gathering spaces and event venues hosting an eclectic calendar of events year-round. A full-time, on-site Social Director will coordinate community events and recommend neighborhood offerings that best align with families’ composition, personal goals and lifestyle needs. The heart of the community will also include a Fitness Lodge, resort-style lagoon pool and multi-lane lap pool, three-story water slide tower called “The Perch”, “Lazy Bird River”, playground areas, sports fields, and four illuminated tennis courts. Capitalizing on the more than 600 acres of open space, Shearwater will also offer a launch area on Trout Creek in Phase II for kayaks and canoes as well as a collection of parks, fields, and trails.

Shearwater is a Vital Community that embraces healthy living, engagement, connectivity, stewardship of nature, and distinctive design. Construction of the community infrastructure and amenities continues. The Shearwater Grand Opening is planned for Fall 2015, allowing future residents to meet with builders, explore home floor plans, and learn more about life at Shearwater.
