The commute from Shearwater makes having the job you want easy without requiring you to live in the city.

While an easy commute means you have more time to spend with your friends and family, that’s not all this community offers. From fun outings and adventures to significant improvements to help the county and district continue to grow, there are many reasons why Shearwater in St. Johns County is the perfect place to create your new home.

Shearwater’s New K-8 Campus and Community Parks

One of this area’s most significant attractions for families is its outstanding school system. St. Johns County School District (SJCSD) consistently ranks among Florida’s top districts and has one of the highest concentrations of top-ranked public schools in the state.

SJCSD is in the process of constructing a new K-8 campus within Shearwater. The brand-new school will be built on 26 acres previously transferred by Shearwater developer, Freehold Communities, to the district, and once open, it will be easily accessible from County Road 210 and County Road 16A. The school is planned to open for the 2024-25 school year and will hold about 1,500 students.

When it comes to outdoor fun, the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department has been working hard to create opportunities for new adventures! The department has announced plans and proposed renderings for a new 10-acre county park on land dedicated by Freehold Communities within Shearwater. This new park will feature amenities including but not limited to group pavilions, a playground area, a covered basketball court, a multipurpose field, pickleball courts, and more. In addition to the 10-acre park within Shearwater, there will be a 40-acre park across 16A that the county also plans to develop. All timelines, renderings, and concepts are subject to change by St. Johns County. Click here to learn more about the plans for the park and other exciting additions planned for the area.
